A busy day ahead
My peaceful morning reading of the newspaper was rocked by this letter to the editor from a Ms. Melanie Hall, a foreman for the City of Pittsburgh Department of Public Works:
[...] It would also be useful if there were a law against people riding bicycles in snow and icy conditions on public streets. They are a major hazard to driving in any weather, but especially in bad weather.
Like I said here, there's a lot of stupid contained in those two sentences. My cup runneth over with snideness.

I can't help but wonder if Ms. Hall has any idea what a merge point is.
As an example, I myself am astounded at the complete ignorance many drivers demonstrate in front of the Ft. Pitt. Tunnels. Not only do they ignore the merge points, they then insist on switching lanes while INSIDE the tunnel - clearly ignoring the signs which say "Do Not Switch Lanes."
To pick on bicyclists seems to me, a bit...petty, not to mention completely unwarranted. Why doesn't Ms. Hall ask the same questions about those who drive cars? Especially since when one compares the number of bicyclists who ignore traffic laws is far, far, far less than those who drive automobiles. You just wouldn't believe some of the stuff I've observed in my 10 years of driving to Pittsburgh every day. From women putting on makeup while doing 65+ MPH on I79, to men playing Gameboys in front of the tunnel. But those bicylists....man, we gotta punish them dangit! eyes roll
Not that I am showing anger here ;)
Geeze! I hope the PG publishes your letter.
Braden, let us forever remember this date. We'll call it "Agreement Day" and celebrate it for years to come.
